It stands for International English Language Testing System.
It tests you on all 4 parts of English, which are Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
Your skills are measured against band scores, ranging from 0 to 9.
You usually need between 5.5 to 7.0 to get into most universities and apply for jobs abroad.
You can either take the paper version or computer-based one, and the test takes a little less than 3 hours – Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes), and Speaking (11-14 minutes).
There are two versions of the test, which are Academic and General.
You usually take the Academic version to study or work abroad, and the General version to work or to get residence abroad.
This is not an easy test, but also not an impossible test to pass. It requires persistence with consistency, so if you are up to the challenge, enjoy this website for some free resources!
